Prostate cancer is the abnormal growth of cells in the prostate gland. Some prostate
cancers grow and spread very quickly. Many, if not most grow slowly.
1 out of every 7 men in the U.S. is diagnosed with prostate cancer; 1 out of every 5
African Americans is diagnosed with prostate cancer.
MEN AT HIGH RISK:
• Those with a father or a brother and African Americans should begin baseline
screening no later than age 40.
• Other men should begin screening no later than age 55.
